Autumn Is A Great Time to Experience the Arts and Culture of Johannesburg

September is national tourism month in South Africa, and that means people will be coming to visit Johannesburg and her many excellent attractions.  We have a local art scene like no other, with a vibrant mix of ethnicities and outlooks that attract people from across the country, and even around the world.

Now, visitors will undoubtedly be looking for cheap accommodation in Germiston and other tourist-friendly areas… but they’ll also be looking for opportunities to drink in our culture.  Here are just a few upcoming festivals and attractions we can highly recommend to any visitors.

Four Great Autumn Arts Experiences in Johannesburg

  • The Soweto Wine & Lifestyle Festival

This beloved event is about to have its tenth annual festival, and we couldn’t be more excited.  At heart, it’s a wine festival, with more than 1,000 vintages available for tasting and purchase.  However, it’s also a musical celebration, including many of the greatest musicians and DJs from across the country.  If you’re a wine-lover, it’s a can’t-miss event!

  • Standard Bank Joy of Jazz

For 21 years now, the Joy of Jazz festival, sponsored by Standard Bank, has been the event for local jazz lovers.  It’s so big, it attracts musicians from all over the world, eager to share in our unique musical heritage.  If you have even the slightest interest in jazz, you can’t possibly miss this one.

  • The Joburg Art Fair

The Joburg Art Fair showcases the best in modern African art and design, including both local and international artists.  There will be 23 full galleries of art in all visual mediums, along with 11 special installations.  We’re particularly looking forward to the debut of a new green glass installation from Martli Jansen van Rensburg!

  • Fire & Feast Meat Festival

Vegetarians don’t show up for this one.  As the name suggests, Fire & Feast is all about the best in freshly grilled meat – served up with cold beer, of course!  The event also includes the National Butcher’s Challenge, highlighting the best cutters from across the country.

Ecomotel Offers the Best Cheap Accommodation in Germiston

We know it can be hard to find cheap motels that a reasonable person would actually want to sleep in – that’s why Ecomotel was started!  We’re dedicated to providing safe, sanitary, pleasant rooms to stay in while keeping prices friendly for visitors on a budget.
